Poker Master Hand Analysis

Blinds 20/40, 8-player table. UTG raises to 200, MP calls, Button 3-bets to 1200, others fold. UTG and MP call, creating a pot of 3660.

  • Flop: 4h, 5s, 10s

UTG checks, MP leads with 2400, Button calls, UTG folds. The pot is now 8460.

  • Turn: Jd

MP bets 7000, Button calls. The pot is 22460, and the Button has more chips behind it.

  • River: Kc

MP checks, Button goes all-in, and MP folds.

  • MP's hand is 4c 5c.

When I heard about the poker hand, I asked about Button's remaining chips, which were around 20,000, with a stack-to-pot ratio (SPR) of approximately 1:1, indicating a decent chance to call.

As mentioned earlier, a poker master is not solely concerned with the outcome but focuses on the action lines, adeptly using all available conditions.

Now, based on our previously shared strategies and conditions, let's explore how a poker master would approach this.

Firstly: We need to list all the ranges. Button's 3-bet squeezing range could be like this:

Given this range, on MP's hand, it's highly likely that it is only dominated by 66/77/88, 8/9s and 9/10s. Therefore, calling in a secure pot odds situation is reasonable.

On the flop, since we have the bottom two pairs, the lead bet seems to be a protection move, aiming to filter out high cards of different suits, as described by the contributor. However, this may not be suitable.

The reason is that most overpairs will call here, and even if UTG has a straight draw, they might call. Filtering out cards is limited, and it might unnecessarily inflate the pot with little room for upward mobility.

The turn brings a Jack with a face card, which is unfavorable for us because, in the opponent's range, apart from A/10 hands, the number of outs increases.

As we are not significantly ahead, and some poker hands that were behind now have the lead, it would be more appropriate, from the perspective of a poker master, to check and call.

No need to dwell on the river fold; our poker hand basically only beats AK of spades, taking advantage of the A-blocker to bluff the hand.

Poker Master's Alternative Action Lines

In this case, a more recommended strategy might be checking and raising the flop. Since Button was the raiser, if they check after the flop, it can be understood that they likely have two high cards. If they c-bet 1800, we can raise to 7200-9000.

The reason is that we have 4 and 5 in our poker hands, making it unlikely that they have a set in the middle. Stronger pairs may call, and as long as the turn does not bring a high card, we have a high probability of being ahead, and an all-in is viable. Additionally, the large-sized raise might make some overpairs fold, providing fold equity.

Following this action line, our losses with this poker hand would be approximately 8400, compared to the actual 10600, resulting in reduced losses. Moreover, this action line is more likely to extract the full value on the turn.

This concludes the summary of the previously shared strategies. Looking at this poker hand from the perspective of a poker master and aiming for the optimal solution, we will continue to share insights in the future. Until next time.
