In a statement representing the Brunson family, Brian Balsbaugh stated, "With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson.

He was a beloved Christian, husband, father, and grandfather. In the days to come, we will have more to say about his legacy. Please keep Doyle and our family in your prayers, may he rest in peace."

"Texas Dolly" was the nickname often used for him, and he rose to prominence in the 1970s, remaining a fixture in the high-stakes poker world until his passing.

Even in the past year, he participated in some televised poker competitions, including the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

Doyle Brunson's Influence in Texas Poker World

Brunson leaves a lasting legacy in the poker world, boasting 10 WSOP bracelets, second only to Phil Hellmuth's 16, and participating in high-stakes cash games for over 50 years.

Before becoming a professional poker player, Doyle was a talented basketball player in the 1950s, making a name for himself on the basketball court at Hardin-Simmons University.

The future poker legend had the opportunity to enter the NBA, but a knee injury shattered his basketball dreams. Instead, he chose the professional path of poker and achieved remarkable success.

Doyle Brunson's impact in the poker community goes beyond his extraordinary achievements at the poker table.

He authored "Super/System" and "Super/System 2," two of the most representative poker strategy books to date.

He was also a poker ambassador for decades and recently served as an ambassador for the World Poker Tour (WPT).

Doyle Brunson Award-Winning history

Daniel Negreanu, who has faced Brunson countless times at the poker table, announced this heartbreaking news on Twitter. He wrote, "There will never be another Doyle Brunson."

At the poker table, Doyle was virtually unbeatable from the 1970s until his passing. He was the World Champion in 1976 and 1977, won 10 WSOP bracelets, was a WPT champion, battled some of the world's best players in Las Vegas for decades, won millions of dollars, and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1988.
