Mumbai Indians team was founded on 24 January 2008, and it was the first franchise team to approach 100 Million US Dollars in price. Reliance Industries bought the Mumbai Indians franchise for 111.9 Million US Dollars, making it the most expensive franchise of IPL. Mumbai Indians struggled in the initial seasons with the team performances and players' attitude problems. Chennai Super Kings have won the four titles of IPL under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, who was Captain of the team every season. The CSK franchise was sold to Indian Cements for 91 million US Dollars. There is no doubt in my mind saying that CSK is the most composed and well-managed team in IPL. The team has only one bad thing in history: their two-year suspension in 2015 due to team owners' involvement in the IPL betting case. Although the team regained its previous spot after completing the suspension period, it was still a black era in the history of CSK.

Chennai Super Kings has the highest win percentage among the IPL teams. CSK has reached nine finals which is the most at any time. They won the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. They also won Champion League T20 in 2010. CSK team has entered the play-off stage except for the 2020 season, where the team lost in the league stage. MS Dhoni, Mathew Hayden, Muttiah Muralitharan, Micheal Hussey, Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and Faf Du Plessis are some of the most famous players to step foot in the group with CSK colors. Performance of MI and CSK in IPL 2022

Mumbai Indian's bad patch is as consistent this season as their performances in previous 7-8 IPL seasons. They lost 8 matches this season from the total 10 matches they played and also at the lowest number in the points table. On the other hand, CSK only won 3 matches out of 10 they played so far in IPL 2022. Chennai won these three matches against SRH, MI, and RCB. At the same time, Mumbai Indians won the two matches against RR and GT. The whole IPL 2022 season is a shame for the teams, owners, management, and fans.

Why did MI and CSK fail in IPL 2022?

There are some common reasons for both teams that they fail this season. The first and foremost reason for their failure was lackluster picks for their teams. There is no doubt that both teams have picked some top players. But they could not perform up to the level both teams think. They went for some big names, tried and trusted players, and missed some of the young guns that hurt them. The other common reason is the bad patch for their captains. Rohit Sharma has not performed as well as he always did for his team in the previous seasons. On the other hand, the regular Captain of CSK stepped down in favor of Jadeja, who looked out of his arc this whole season. Maybe, it is because of the added pressure of captaincy on him.

The third common reason for poor performance is the lack of depth in the bowling or the bowlers' bad performance. Both teams have well-known names in their squads, but no one gets out the results they want to have from them. The captains of both teams have struggled to control the overall performance of their respective teams. Mumbai Indians have their star bowler Bumrah in the squad, but he is not purchasing the type of swing he always produced. Bumrah is facing the worst form of his entire career in this year's IPL. The lackluster team selection and lack of proper spin options have also derailed Mumbai's momentum.

The likes of Tim David and Fabian Allen have warmed the bench mostly as out-of-form players like Pollard, Sams, and Mills played consistently in previous games. On the other hand, CSK has a weak opening pair who did not meet expectations. They also lacked a strong finisher for their team. Although Dhoni and Ali have performed, they still need one more player to perform in the middle or lower order. The changing of Captain and lack of performance in fast bowling have created issues for the team. These were all the major reasons why MI and CSK failed in IPL 2022.
