The 15th edition of the IPL was full of entertainment and the fans have witnessed a lot of nail-biting competition this season. The addition of two new sides made the tournament more interesting and after almost 2 months of complete thrill and entertainment, IPL 2022 comes finally to an end. The new franchise Gujrat Titans were excellent throughout this competition and they bagged the trophy of IPL 2022 after beating Rajasthan Royals in the final.
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals managed to reach only 130-9 from their 20 overs due to some exceptional bowling from the Gujrat skipper Hardik Pandya who grabbed 3 wickets. In reply, Gujarat Titans comfortably win the game by 7 wickets as they chased down the total with 11 balls to spare. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 45 while Hardik Pandya scored 34 runs to get their side over the line in the final.
Many bowlers delivered magnificent performances for their respective teams. We have witnessed many match-winning spells in this tournament, some picked up wickets while some bowlers won the games for their side by bowling economical spells. A few bowlers were too good as compared to others and they emerged as the top wicket-takers this season. In this article, we will talk about the top 5 bowlers with the most wickets in IPL 2022.
TOP 5 Wicket Takers: Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav made a brilliant comeback this season and proved his critics wrong. He didn’t get proper chances and mostly remained on the bench in the last two seasons while playing for his former team Kolkata Knight Riders. But he was quite impressive this season. The leg-spinner was the standout bowler for Delhi Capitals in this entire tournament.
Kuldeep Yadav ended as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2022. He picked 21 wickets from just 14 games in this tournament. The chinaman bowled at an excellent average of 19.95 and an economy rate of 8.43.
His former team Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t give him proper chances and we might say that KKR has probably wasted a couple of crucial years of his career. Kuldeep Yadav took revenge against his former side as he destroyed their batting lineup in both the games he played against them. Kuldeep Yadav claimed brilliant four-wicket hauls in both matches against Kolkata Knight Riders including 4-14 which was his best bowling spell of the tournament.
TOP 4 Wicket Takers: Umran Malik
Umran Malik has gained a lot of popularity this season due to powerful fast deliveries. Umran Malik consistently bowled with a speed of over 150 plus throughout this tournament and he was the best bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. The right-arm fast bowler finished as the 4th highest wicket-taker of IPL 2022.
Umran Malik grabbed 22 wickets in just 14 games at an average of 20.18 but he was a bit costly with his economy rate of 9.03. The pace sensation from Jammu has also been added to the Indian squad for the series against South Africa due to his superb performance in IPL and the domestic circuit. He is also looking like a strong contender for a spot in this year’s T20 World Cup. The best bowling figures for Umran Malik this season were 5-25 against a strong batting side like Gujrat Titans.
TOP 3 Wicket Takers: Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada was the standout bowler for his new team Punjab Kings in this edition of IPL and he was impressive in both average and strike rate. The veteran South African pacer ended as the 3rd highest wicket-taker of this season.
Rabada is one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League and is managed to come up with another magnificent IPL season. The right-arm fast bowler scalped 23 wickets in 13 matches at an excellent average of 17.65 and he held an economy rate of 8.45. The Proteas star has claimed two four-wicket hauls and his best bowling performance in this season stood at 4/33 against the Gujrat Titans in match 48 of this season.
TOP 2 Wicket Takers: Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga proved as one of the best picks of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the mega auction of IPL 2022 and he is looking a great future aspect for the franchise. The Sri Lankan spinner finished as the 2nd highest wicket-taker of the season and he remained just one wicket shy from winning the purple cap of this season. The leg-spinner hunted 26 wickets in 16 matches at an impressive average of 16.53 in IPL 2022. The star Sri Lankan spinner bowled with a decent economy rate of 7.54.

TOP 1 Wicket Takers: Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal had a dream IPL season and he held the purple cap for the maximum time during IPL 2022. Chahal was impressive in the first 8 games as he managed to pick up 18 wickets but he struggled a bit in the second phase of the competition as he hunted just 8 wickets from the next 8 games.
The Indian leg-spinner picked one wicket for 20 runs in the final against Gujrat Titans to end the season as the highest wicket-taker. He picked 27 wickets from 17 matches in IPL 2022 for his new franchise Rajasthan Royals. He registered a spectacular average of 19.51 and a decent economy rate of 7.75 in IPL 2022. Yuzvendra Chahal won the purple cap for his brilliant performance throughout this competition.
Chahal’s tally of 27 scalps is also the most wickets picked by a spinner in a single IPL edition. The previous one was 26 wickets by Imran Tahir in 2019 and Wanindu Hasaranga in 2022. Chahal’s best bowling performance this season was a superb five-wicket haul for 40 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders which is also his career-best bowling figure.
