Why BCCI Shouldn't Ignore India Cricket Team's Arshdeep Singh And Rahul Tripathi?

2022/11/22

Indian cricket team has suffered a lot in the second half of 2021. They were battered and bruised in the 2021 World T20, losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in consecutive games before crashing out. However, the Blues shouldn’t ignore Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Tripathi at all costs.

But with this many options in the squad, it isn’t necessarily an advantage because you can’t pick all of them.

Months later, Virat Kohli resigned as captain from every format, which was followed by the resignation of Ravi Shastri as the head coach. However, it seems like the Men in Blue are back on track.

But the future seems bright for the two-time World Champions.

The Biggest Reasons Why India Cricket Team Has Been So Successful In The Last 15 Years.

One of the biggest reasons why the India cricket team has been so successful in the last 15 years is the emergence of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ever since its first edition in 2008, it seems like the baggage of talent has emerged across the country.

No wonder why Mahendra Singh Dhoni relied on the talent coming through IPL and integrated superstars like Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, and Robin Uthappa into the team. Eventually, the Blues under Dhoni’s captaincy won all the ICC tournaments (World T20, World Cup, Champions Trophy) in 2013.

Even though they haven’t maintained the standards that the great wicket-keeping batsman had during his prime years, the talent coming through IPL hasn’t stopped as they strive to get a breakthrough in the Indian first team.

However, the problem is that changing players within the team isn’t as easy as it seems. There is player power involved and they have to create the perfect blend for the team to function properly.

We have already seen that despite the poor form shown by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has continued to back him. However, legends like Kapil Dev have questioned the picking of the former captain based on sentimental values.

Despite the insane squad depth India has, there are players in Indian domestic cricket that they cannot ignore at all costs i.e. Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Tripathi.

Even though they are completely different players based on attributes, they can prove to be a huge asset for Sharma going forward. As Indian coach Rahul Dravid was arguably the finest Test batsman during his time, he should definitely be looking into the qualities Tripathi possesses for the Indian top order.

Arshdeep Singh: Future Leader Of India Cricket Team Pace Cartel

Arshdeep Singh has proved to be one of the most significant buys by Kings XI Punjab in their history. It all started for him in the 2019 edition when he was bought through the player auction.

His career couldn’t have started any better as he finished his first IPL season as the second-highest wicket-taker within the squad. From then on, his performance only improved.

Later on, in 2019, he made his debut for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy. In the 2020 IPL edition, he took nine wickets with an average of 24.22. However, his economy was a huge cause of concern as it was struggling at 8.77.

According to the Indian critics, the Kings XI fast bowler struggled with his line and length in death overs, which resulted in a poor economy. However, as it was just his second IPL season, many people believed that the left-arm fast bowler was still a work in progress.

They were proved right as his third IPL season was even better than the second season. The 23-year-old took 18 wickets, which was the second-highest in the squad of Punjab Kings after Mohammad Shami (19). He also picked up his first five-wicket haul in his career against Rajasthan Royals in the same edition.

Even though his performances in the 2022 edition weren’t as prolific as in the 2021 edition, there were some notable improvements in his bowling. His economy improved, going under 8 runs per over for the first time in his career.

He became more of a bowler who wasn’t just there to take wickets but also to contain runs in the death overs. His evolution in the Punjab Kings squad brought him his first international cap for the Indian National Team against England. In his lone T20 match of the England tour, he picked up two wickets.

India Cricket Team Rahul Tripathi: A Threat For Death Over Bowlers

Like Arshdeep Singh, Tripathi’s career also started like a train with his breathtaking performances in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy. In the eight matches he played in that event, he scored 504 runs and became the leading run-scorer for Maharashtra.

In his IPL debut season with Rising Pune Supergiant, he smashed bowlers across all parts of the ground to make his presence felt. The right-handed batsman also scored a career-best of 93 against Kolkata Knight Riders, which was an important part of his first IPL season. In the 12 matches he played in the 2017 season, he scored 391 runs.

In the two seasons he played for Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored 627 runs in 28 games. He had an average of 25 and his highest individual score for the two-time IPL champions was 81 against Chennai Super Kings.

As the most reliable batsman of Sunrisers Hyderabad currently, he is focused on winning more matches for his team. In the 2022 edition with the 2016 champions, the 31-year-old scored 413 runs in 14 matches.

He scored three fifties in the most recent IPL edition, smashing 40 fours and 20 sixes in the event. His highest individual score was 76, which came against Mumbai Indians.

Tripathi had his first national team call-up for the two-match T20I series against Ireland but didn’t feature in either of those matches.

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has suggested that Tripathi is perfect as India’s no.3 in the future. He believes that the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman has got an all-round game and he is never intimidated by the opposition bowlers.

The former Indian all-rounder suggests that Tripathi’s ability to keep the scoreboard ticking could prove to be effective for the Blues going forward.

As he is selected for the upcoming tour against Zimbabwe, Sharma and Dravid would both be looking forward to seeing the credentials of the right-handed batsman.

If he is able to showcase the form that he did with Sunrisers Hyderabad and the way we look at the struggles Kohli has had in the last three years, India cricket team might well have a future without their former captain after all.
