Pak vs Eng 3rd Test Match Report: Here's How England Cricket Clinched 3-0 Test White Wash Over Pakistan Cricket

2022/12/21

England Cricket was touring Pakistan Cricket for Tests after a long hiatus of 17 years, but the way they played felt like they had never left.

Stokes and co adjusted to Pakistan Cricket’s condition better than the home side, outplaying Babar Azam’s unit in every department.

Pak vs Eng 3rd Test Match Report: Here's How England Cricket Clinched 3-0 Test White Wash Over Pakistan Cricket

In the final Test which was wrapped up today at the National Stadium Karachi, England Cricket chased the meager 167 run target with the loss of only two wickets.

Ben Duckett scored 82 not out on just 78 balls, sweeping Pakistan Cricket’s spinners on both sides of the ground for fun.

Zack Crawley and Duckett began the innings playing at a run rate of over 10 in the first few overs. Crawley departed after a quick-fire 41 off 41. Rehan Ahmed was then sent in to finish the job, however, Abrar Ahmed sent him packing on just 10.

In the press conference, Rehan revealed that he was promoted up the order by the skipper to continue from where Crawley left off and finish the game by the end of the day’s play.

Captain Ben Stokes then chipped in 35 runs, bringing another stand of over 50 runs with Duckett to clinch the historic series. England Cricket has now won nine of the last 10 Tests under Stokes’ leadership.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 1: Harry Brook Continues To Rule On Pakistan Cricket Soil

Brook was named the Player of the Series as he amassed the most runs on either side. The right-handed batsman got a whopping 468 runs in only five innings.

He averaged almost 94 with three centuries and one half-century. This is not a bad start for someone who was playing in his debut Test series on an away tour.

Batting at no. 5, Brook has looked very settled and has batted at a similar strike rate to Johnny Bairstow, who is currently out of the team due to a left injury.

It will be interesting to see how the England Cricket management will cater to both Brook and Bairstow once the latter is fit to play again.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 2: Rehan Ahmed Gets A Dream Start

Not many 18-year-old debutants will look as calm as Rehan Ahmed did on his Test debut. The teenage sensation grabbed two wickets in the first inning, then a match-changing five-wicket haul to ensure a white wash for his team.

Stokes’ trust in Rehan was evident from the get-go. On a track where spinners were getting a tad of support, he kept Rehan and Jack Leach as his primary attackers, even with the new ball.

The Nottingham star, who just turned 18 last Saturday, fits quite well in the Stokes-McCullum team. He did not get big runs with the bat, but his mindset was clear from the first ball.

He intended to pile up boundaries in quick succession and put pressure back on Pakistan Cricket spinners.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 3: Saud Shakeel Shows His Class

Saud Shakeel has guaranteed a spot in the national side after scoring a huge amount of runs in the Sindh jersey. He has been groomed in the domestic circuit for a long while.

The Karachi star, who is hailed for his calculated batting against spinners, has been deemed an all-format batsman for Pakistan Cricket.

Shakeel, who got a fighting fifty on his ODI debut in England Cricket, did not disappoint the fans in the white jersey as well.

He was unable to get his maiden Test ton, but he got four half-centuries in six innings. The left-handed batsman scored a whopping 346 runs at an average of almost 58.

Batting against a quality spin attack, he was able to rotate the strike and form crucial partnerships.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 3: Saud Shakeel Shows His Class

Shakeel and Babar Azam (348 runs) are the top run-getters for Pakistan Cricket throughout the series, but both lacked support from the other end. Mohamdmad Rizwan and Azhar Ali were not up to the mark, and Imam ul Haque and Abdullah Shafique were below average as well.

The opening duo of Imam and Shafique seems to be doing well on flat tracks, but they are in trouble as soon as the wicket has anything for the bowlers.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 4: Pakistan Cricket Miss Their Prime Speedsters

With Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf injured, Pakistan Cricket was lacking a quality pacer in the team.

Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim did all they could, but it will take a long time for them to fill in the boots of Shaheen and Naseem in Tests.

Shaheen is still in rehab, recovering from his knee injury which was aggravated in the 2022 World Cup final against England Cricket when he grabbed a catch on the boundary.

As for Haris Rauf, he made his Test debut in the same series, but he injured his quad. As for Naseem, a shoulder injury ruled him out of the series too.

But it’s quite a claim to make that the hosts would have done more damage with the ball had they enjoyed the perks of having any of the three fast bowlers. This is because the wickets in Rawalpindi, Multan, and even Karachi had almost nothing for pace bowlers.

Pak vs Eng Test Highlights 5: Babar Azam’s Captaincy Dooms The Hosts

While there are no questions about Babar Azam’s batting, there have been a lot of eyebrows raised over his captaincy.

The Pakistan Cricket skipper was reliant on a defensive approach, as compared to how England Cricket was going. The likes of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson were able to get results on the dead Pindi track, but the hosts weren’t.

It was often seen that the bowling changes Stokes made proved to be more timely and close to the playing conditions as compared to what Babar Azam did.

The skipper has also been criticized for dropping Fawad Alam and keeping former Pakistan Cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed out of the side.

While Alam’s replacement Saud Shakeel has proved his selection valid, Sarfaraz’s replacement Agha Salman hasn’t quite proved his worth yet. With Rizwan out of form for a while in red-ball games, fans haven’t quite understood why Azam has not given any chance for his former skipper.
