Basic Full Ring Poker Strategy For Postflop Poker Round Game Introduction

Hello everyone, in the previous full ring poker table introduction, we mentioned many pre-flop concepts, including position and hand range, decision-making on action lines, targeting and exploiting opponents, and so on.

Basic Full Ring Poker Strategy For Postflop Poker Round

Today, we're going to build on the previous article and look at how to continue our aggressiveness postflop in the full ring poker strategy, to follow through with the action lines we established pre-flop, or how to adapt on the fly to minimize losses.

Full Ring Poker Strategy: Postflop Poker Action Line Extension

The extension of the postflop poker action line depends on how we handle our overlapping ranges with opponents, which in turn depends on two factors: position and blockers.

In full ring poker strategy, positions and blockers can be said to be equally important, but positions may have a slight advantage. Let's look at the following example for a postflop poker round.

Blind levels are 1000/2000/2000. We are on the button with KcQd. There is approximately 50k in the hijack, and the middle position raises to 5000. The hijack has about 16k, and the cutoff calls. We also choose to call. The small and big blinds fold, and the pot is 15k with three players.

If there was no raise before the cutoff, our blockers of K and Q block many KK/QQ and A/K, A/Q combinations. We can play this hand when facing just one opponent with only 8 big blinds. However, with an additional player, it would be more appropriate for us to call.

The flop is Qc Jh 8s.

The middle position player goes all-in, the cutoff folds to us. According to our full ring poker strategy, in this scenario, the button player holds a top pair with a good kicker. We need to think about the opponent's pre-flop and postflop poker action lines, because of the three-way pot, there should be a wide range to push.

In the full ring poker table introduction, the tightest positions are UTG and UTG+1. Therefore, in the cutoff position, with 10 big blinds, to take down the blinds, many AX hands can be used to raise. In this scenario, we only lose to AQ. Additionally, the opponent can have combinations of JJ to 88, so we need to calculate the overall combinations.

Losing combinations: AQ: 24 = 8, QJ: 32 = 6, AA = 6, KK = 3, QQ = 1, JJ = 3, 88 = 3, total of 30 combinations.

Winning combinations: AK 43 = 12, AJ: 43 = 12, A10: 43 = 12, KJ: 33 = 9, 1010 = 6, 99 = 6, total of 57 combinations.

Overall, we should call in this situation based on our full ring poker strategy.

Full Ring Poker Strategy: Judging the Turn and River Cards

In a six-handed table, our ranges may be broader, which means there will be more bluffing between us. However, in the full ring poker table introduction, the overlapping ranges are not as high. This means that if we see cards that don't fit our strategy in the later streets, we should be quick to fold.

Let's look at an example:

In a 4bet pot, we hold AA in the cutoff. The flop is Kc 3c 5s, and UTG bets half the pot. We call. The turn is Qc.

Here, our AA basically only wins against Ac Kx combinations, and loses to all KK and QQ combinations. We also don't have the AQ with a flush draw or backdoor straight draw combinations. Therefore, it's best to check or fold on the turn.

If we were in the UTG position and had AK, we should continue to attack. Only AA can check-call here, otherwise, we would appear weak. Additionally, our hand strength would be very obvious. If we were to check even a set of kings here, we would lose too much equity, and in the long run, it would be -EV.

These are our analyses of the postflop poker strategies in the full ring poker strategy introduction. We hope everyone can thoroughly study both the pre-flop and postflop poker strategies, as whether it's in cash games or tournaments, the full ring poker table is the most common table type. Therefore, understanding these concepts well can be very useful in crucial moments.
