This blog will discuss the roller coaster ride journey of the Lucknow IPL Team in the IPL Cricket, its historical background, team recognition, home ground & Fan support, performances in the previous seasons, top performers, and rivalries in the league.
Lucknow Super Giants is a professional Cricket franchise based in the Indian City of Lucknow and participates in India’s marquee cricket event, the Indian Premier League. The team joined this tournament two years ago when the IPL committee decided to rope in 2 more teams in the event to make it more popular and bigger.
Despite being a newcomer, the Lucknow IPL Team has done really well in both seasons finishing in 3rd place both times losing the knockout matches that led to their elimination. However, it is a great achievement for any newcomer team to perform so well and finish the season in 3rd place.
A Quick History of Lucknow Super Giants
In August 2021, the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council invited bids for two new teams. Although 22 companies showed interest, only six were serious bidders because of the high base prices. The RPSG Group, led by Sanjiv Goenka, won the rights to the Lucknow franchise with a successful bid of ₹7,090 crore (around ₹80 billion or US$1.0 billion in 2023). In January 2022, the Lucknow IPL Team held a competition to decide its name and finally revealed "Lucknow Super Giants" as the chosen name.
LSG Team Logo, Crest, and colors
The logo of Lucknow Super Giants displays a bat and ball between wings on each side. The bat, in a lively blue color, has the team's name, "Lucknow Super Giants," on the latter part. The ball is shown in a bold red color, and the wings carry the three colors of the Indian national flag. This design cleverly mixes cricket symbols with patriotic colors.
Home Ground and Fan Base of LSG
Lucknow Super Giants is a cricket team located in Lucknow, India. They play their home games at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. This stadium can seat over 50,000 people, giving plenty of room for fans to cheer for their team.
Within a short span, the Lucknow IPL team has built a strong fanbase not only in its home city but all across India and the cricket fraternity. Their fans and supporters have filled the stadium each time the team played at Ekana Stadium,

Lucknow Super Giants' Rivalries:
Rivalries among the teams have blessed the IPL Cricket with some of the most thrilling and nail-biting matches where players from both teams give their heart and soul on the field to claim victory. Similarly, Lucknow Super Giants joined the IPl Cricket 2 years ago and since then shared some rivalry with other teams.
Rivalry with Gujrat Titans:
Lucknow IPL Team and Titans were inducted into the IPL 2 seasons ago and being newcomer teams, there lies a competition among these teams to dominate each other and to be declared as the better newcomer into the IPL Cricket scenario. Both teams have been head-to-head 4 times with Gujrat winning all 4 matches. Although both teams have done exceptionally well so far in the league Gujrat won the trophy in its inaugural season while Super Giants finished in 3rd position in both seasons.
Rivalry with Royal Challengers Banglore:
The Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore have become a rival after an incident happened where Virat Kohli from RCB and Naveen Ul Haq from LSG found themselves in a position of almost a fight. Although other players intervened and made sure things went smoothly, after the match, Gautam Gambhir (head Coach of LSG) and Virat Kohli passed on bad words to each other.
Since then, fans of both teams have waited eagerly for the match between these sides. RCB has managed to dominate the head-to-head record with 3 wins out of 4 matches but the rivalry is surely not going to settle anytime soon.
