The IPL match 47 KKR vs DC was played between KKR and DC in the home ground of Kolkata in Eden Gardens on Monday (29th April). It ended as a one-sided affair as the home side showed massive domination in the game.
Shreyas Iyer mentioned at the toss that he wanted to bowl so both captains got what they really wanted from the coin but it was a horror show with the bat for the visitors.
Delhi started the show with a bang with Prithvi Shaw smoking Mitchell Starc for three consecutive fours in the first three balls of the innings.
Shaw got dismissed in the second over on a delivery which was down the leg side.
Fraser - McGurk looked to play his shots the method which gave him all the success but one shot too many showed him the path to the pavilion when he was caught at deep square leg by Venkatesh Iyer on the bowling of Mitchell Starc.
Delhi despite losing wickets kept on playing with intent and had a decent score of 58 after the first powerplay.
Even after the halfway mark the scorecard had 91 runs written on it.
The real downfall for Delhi came in second half when they surrendered completely In front of the magic of chakravarthy.
Delhi only managed to score 153 and too also came on the back of a decent cameo of 31 from Kuldeep Yadav who stood their till the end.
Though the score was not enough keeping the monstrous batting of KKR in mind but because of the slow nature of the surface and Delhi had 2 quality spinners in the playing XI so they must have thought the game was on if they take early wickets.
Varun Chakravarthy
It was complete control with the ball from Varun Chakravarthy in IPL Match 47 KKR vs DC who was absolutely sensational with the ball on this Eden Gardens surface.
The Delhi batters had absolutely idea about his variation, the one which goes straight and everyone who intended to play shot against him perished badly.
He showed his magic in the second half of the game first by beating Rishabh Pant on the spin who went for the aerial shot and then Tristan Stubbs who got caught behind with an excellent catch behind the stumps by Salt
The right-arm leg spinner ended with the figures of three for 16 in his four overs quota. We must not forget that this is the same venue where scores in excess of 200 were made and chased with absolute ease and there is nothing substantial for the bowlers on the surface.
He had so many options under his sleeve and unsettled the middle order of Delhi completely.
The magician was named as the player of the match as well for his wonderful bowling performance which was an exhibition of skill and consistency.
Phil Salt
Phil Salt on the run chase of 254 was in a hurry and he made sure that this game doesn't go too far.
He was so destructive at the top that it made this game a single sided contest in the favor of KKR.
the right hander along with Narine added 72 runs in the first powerplay and more than the half of the game was done.
He scored a scintillating fifty in 26 balls and got bowled at 68.
The rest of the KKR batters didn't have to do much as the game was done and dusted by top order specially by this bloke from England.
His effort at the top helped KKR get two points from this fixture having won by seven wickets and 21 balls to spare in KKR vs DC.
Axar Patel
In IPL Match 47 Axar Patel was the only positive for Delhi who bowled really well against these power striker's. Initially when he came onto bowl after the powerplay got the wicket of Sunil Narine in his first over which kinda brought them back in the contest.
The bowlers did not support him much and this was the major reason that rum flow was never stopped from the other end.
He probably came to bowl a bit late considering the nature of wicket so Pant’s captaincy could be questioned as well in terms of utilizing his resources.
The left arm spinner ended with the figures of 25 for two in a four overs spell which was quite superb under the circumstances.
IPL Match 47: KKR vs DC Report
IPL Match 47 KKR vs DC brought KKR back on the winning ways and today the wicket was very unlike from the normal Eden Gardens track.
Delhi after consecutive victories had to bow down in front of the brilliance of Varun Chakravarthy and Vabhav Aroro, both of them bowled brilliantly.
Pant and his men couldn't really identify the ideal score on the surface and kept playing attacking shots which became a reason for their low score eventually as they lost a lot of wickets in between.
Delhi is very much out of the race for the playoffs whereas KKR announced their comeback in a grand way as they progressed further in the race of the top four.
They need to address their bowling performance specially the effort from their pacers who have been below par throughout the IPL so far
It was a clinical performance from the Men in Purple both with the bat and ball and this win would give them loads of confidence which would be reflected in the upcoming games as well.
They will try their best to fight for the second spot in the points table just behind Rajasthan so that they get two opportunities for making it to the final.
