Sic Bo is a famous dice game that originates from China. The Asian game of luck remains popular in online casinos and live casinos worldwide. If craps feels too overwhelming and roulette is getting a little too boring, you need to try your luck at Sic Bo. The fast-paced dice game combines the betting opportunities and dice found in craps with the simplicity that has made roulette so popular. The result has led to fortunes for casino players all over the planet.

Sic Bo Glossary

Sic Bo live casino is a simple guessing game in which players wager on the result of a roll, with three six-sided dice being used instead of the pair found in craps. If you’re familiar with roulette, the betting system for Sic Bo may be a bit more familiar as you’ll be wagering on outcomes that offer an essentially even money proposition like the red or black bets, or more unlikely outcomes that offer significantly higher payouts like the number bets.

While craps still dominate the gambling landscape for dice throwers, both in land-based casinos and online casino platforms, Sic Bo is experiencing a revival of late. Online casino players, in particular, have embraced Sic Bo in the last decade or so, with the added comfort created by the online game compelling gamblers all over the globe to try something new. Without the additional pressure created by land-based casinos, where experienced players may become impatient with novices and big money bets dwarf your initial wagers, online casinos provide players with the perfect place to try their hand at Sic Bo without feeling out of place.

Sic Bo Terms and Glossary A-E

1. Any Double

A bet that two of the three dice thrown by the dealer will match. Furthermore, this bet also goes by the name Any Pair according to our Sic Bo guide. The payout on this wager is 11 to 1.

2. Any One Number

In this wager, the player is hoping for one number to appear on the dice. If it appears twice or three times, then the payout increases. The payout on hitting one number is 1 to 1, on two numbers it’s 2 to 1, and on three numbers it’s 12 to 1.

3. Any Triple

Hoping that all three dice will land on the same number is called any triple bet. Some punters call it three of a kind, using poker terminology. In Sic Bo, this type of bet pays at 31 to 1.

4. Any Pair

The same as any double.

5. Bet

The money that the player is wagering on a certain outcome in the game. All bets must be placed prior to the shaking of the dice, and every bet in the game of sic bo has different payout rates and winning conditions associated with it.

6. Big

One of the best bets that you can place in Sic Bo. It lowers the house edge and thus offers better odds. The “big” is the wager you place believing that the total of all the dice will be between 11 and 17. However, if it’s a three of a kind it isn’t a winner as this needs to be bet on separately. This is one of the better bets that a player can make in a game of sic bo due to the low house edge.

7. Birdcage

A sic bo variant which is played with different bet types and the dice are rolled in a glass container called a birdcage. The payouts are far worse in this game, therefore, driving up the house edge. This game is also sometimes called chuck a luck or grand hazard. If you can avoid playing this game and a proper sic bo game is available, then playing that instead is probably a good idea.

8. Cage

A small device used to shake or tumble the dice before rolling. It’s usually a glass container in sic bo unless the game is using the traditional small wooden chest. This is not to be confused with the casino cage, where players can cash in their chips for cash, and vice versa.

9. Chuck a Luck

A Sic Bo variant with lower payouts and worse odds than the original game. See the birdcage above for more information.

10. Combination Bet

Wagering that two of the dice will show the same number. This is sometimes also called a pair bet. The standard payout odds on this bet is 6 to 1.

14. Dealer

Synonymous with a croupier. In sic bo the dealer manages bets and also is in charge of shaking and rolling the dice. How this is done can differ from casino to casino, and from country to country. Players can never touch the dice and all they do is place bets and retrieve winnings if they get lucky.

15. Dice

In sic bo three dice are used to determine winning numbers. These are standard dice with the numbers 1 to 6 on their sides. Unlike craps, only the dealer in sic bo handles, shakes, and rolls the dice, usually with the assistance of a container so they aren’t directly touching them to their skin. This is done to avoid cheating and collusion.

16. Dice Face

A bet on a specif number appearing on one or more of the three dice thrown.

17. Double or Duo

The house edge (advantage) is the mathematical advantage that the casino long-term has over players. The advantage secures that the casino stays in business. This can’t be beaten without cheating and ensures that on a long enough timeline the house always wins that percentage amount from the players. In sic bo, the best house edge you can get is 2.78% on the big and small bet, or the even and odd bets if they’re available. This means if a player wagers $100 then they will lose $2.78 to the house in the long run.

23. Layout

The labelled parts on the Sic Bo table that imply where bets should be placed. The squares, text, and pictures on the sic bo table indicate where bets are made and usually what the payouts are for those bets. Collectively this is known as the layout. In most sic bo games the tabletop will be plastic instead of felt. This is where players place down their chips in order to wager on the next roll.

24. Live Dealer

If you play the game online, some casinos will offer a live dealer sic bo game. You will be connected via video link to a sic bo table and the dealer where real dice are rolled to determine winning numbers. You still make your bets via a user interface on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, and you will be paid out in credits into your account similar to if you were playing in a fully digital game.

25. Live Sic Bo

The live variation of the traditional game, dealt by a real dealer in real time. 26. Lose On Any Triple

A Sic Bo rule that stipulates that all small and big bets lose when a triple is rolled. A condition on certain bets where they lose on a three of a kind, or triple, even though the main bet result has been achieved. On some sic bo table layouts the actual payout rates will be listed directly in the area of the corresponding bet type, which makes things much easier.

Online casinos clearly can’t use the same devices such as dice that are used in live casinos to determine outcomes and winning numbers. In this game, a random number generator is used to determine which numbers will appear on the dice. This means you achieve a fully random result for the dice as if you were playing on a live table and actually rolling them.

34. Roll
