Here Are 4 Moments When India Cricket Has Pakistan Cricket In Asian Cup 2022

2022/11/23

Pakistan cricket chased 182 with five wickets in hand and a ball to spare to make it 1-1 against India cricket in the tournament. This was Rohit Sharma's first loss in the Asia Cup 2022 and to Pakistan as well in T20Is.

Mohammad Rizwan was the star alongside Mohammad Nawaz as the duo scored 71(51) and 42(20), respectively.

Azam's men are now ranked at the top of the Super 4 points table. They will be through to the final even if they can grab one win in their next two contests. They will play Afghanistan on Wednesday and Sri Lanka Friday.

As for India, they will have to beat both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan by a good margin to reach the final.

Suryakumar Yadav'S Dismissal Foils India Cricket'S Plans

After Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul returned to the hut after the powerplay, India was eyeing a 200-run target to corner the Men in Green. In walked Suryakumar Yadav in place of Rahul to support Virat Kohli in continuing the blows but he succumbed to Pakistan's game plan.

Pakistan soon realized that the pitch would not allow their pacers to keep the Indian batters in check, so they put Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan into the attack to slow the momentum.

The ploy worked as Yadav gave a soft dismissal to Nawaz while trying to slog sweep him over square leg. But Asif Ali caught him on the ropes.

SKY ended his brief stay with a 10-ball 13 which stunted India's vision. The quick fall of wickets did not allow other batters to keep the pump that the openers had built by hammering Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf in the initial overs.

Pant Frustrates Rohit Sharma

Rishabh Pant only added agony to Sharma's plans on Sunday night.

The left-hander departed while trying to reverse sweep the ball to Shadab, returning to the pavilion for 14 off 12.

The wicket-keeper batsman was playing in place of Dinesh Karthik, whom Sharma had benched supposedly to create a left-right combo on the crease with the help of Pant.

However, the 24-year-old played a sluggish knock before gifting his wicket to unarguably the best spinner in Pakistan's side, who also got the better of Pant when they last met in the 2021 T20 World Cup at the same venue.

Sharma, who was witnessing his batter's dismissal from the stands, was seen visibly angry and mildly scolding the left-handed star when he walked back to the dressing room.

Had it not been for Virat Kohli's acceleration in the death overs and cameos from Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi, India may not have crossed the 170-run mark.

India Cricket Player Pandya Delivers A Sub-Par Performance

Hardik Pandya, who single-handedly anchored India to victory in the Asia Cup 2022 opener, was the player with the worst stats last Sunday.

The all-rounder was dismissed for a duck on his second ball and ended his bowling quota with figures of 1/44.

He had the highest economy (11) in the game followed by Yuzi Chahal (10.75) who went for 1/43 in his four overs.

In his penultimate over, Pandya was taken to the cleaners by Pakistan's surprise entry - Nawaz, who hit on the midwicket region a mammoth six on a short ball to set the tone for the over.

After being promoted up the order to No.4, the lefty batter played a match-winning cameo where he struck 42 runs off 20 balls before falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His six fours and two sixes were enough to keep the run rate in reach of the two-time Asia Cup champions.

This was the first time in a long time that Pandya had to bowl his full quota of four overs, mainly due to Ravi Jadeja's absence. The all-rounder has been sidelined for the entire tournament due to a knee injury.

Jadeja is just as effective with the ball as he's with the bat and his fielding. To replace him with another player and expect the same would've been unfair to the replacement.

The critics back home have argued though, that the skipper could've given the ball to Deepak Hooda, who was playing in Jadeja's place.

The other side of the argument is that Hooda was playing his first big game against the arch-rivals. While he has a track record of playing in pressure situations in the IPL, the scenario of an Indo-Pak clash is at a different level.

Asif Ali Gets A Lifeline

Every cricket fan was in awe after seeing Arshdeep Singh drop a sitter off Asif Ali in the final overs. It could've been a perfect gift to Ravi Bishnoi's incredible and disciplined bowling performance in his first game against Pakistan but a brain-fade moment foiled the plans.

Sharma himself was seen animated after the drop before everything returned to normalcy.

Ali then went on to hit two fours and a six in the next overs.

Singh, who was put in to defend seven runs in the final over, caught Ali's right heel in front of the wicket but the damage was done by then. With two runs needed in two balls, Iftikhar Ahmed went deep into his crease to deliver the final four to a low full toss right over the bowler's head.

Moments after the game was over, former Indian cricket skipper Kohli addressed the moment before a press conference.

“Anyone can commit mistakes under pressure. It was a big game, and the situation was a bit tight,” Kohli said.

“I remember when I was playing my first Champions Trophy game against Pakistan, and I played a very poor shot off Shahid Afridi's bowling. I kept looking at the ceiling till 5 in the morning. I was up all night and couldn't sleep. I thought it would be the end of my career and never get another chance,” the former captain added.

“That's a natural feeling. But there are senior players around you. We'll come together again for the next game. So, it's all about learning in a good environment and when a similar situation arrives again, you look forward to it and be ready.”
