Sylhet Strikers have pocketed every game they have played this season and continued their dominance against Dhaka Dominators as well on Monday. They trashed the Dominators by five wickets.
T20 cricket, in general, is all about power-hitting big runs and boundary sixes; this is what this generation loves, but there is another side of T20 cricket that is fascinating to watch, and that is low-scoring affairs that come through bowling-friendly wickets.
Bangladesh Premier League which is currently being played in Bangladesh is one of the countries in the world that offers slightly bowling-friendly conditions which enables you to see Low scoring thrillers as well.
Dhaka Dominators captain Naseer Hossain won the toss and decided to put runs on the board. The Wicket looked good to Bat on and it was observed that 160 would be a competitive score. It was a drama in the first over of the match when Usman Ghani on the second ball of the innings was run Out. The direct hit could have sent him to the Pavilion. Dhaka Dominators lost their first wicket when Soumya Sarkar was given Lbw on the delivery of Rubel.
Losing the first wicket in the first over meant that Dhaka Dominators was on the back foot. They had to play the building game now.
On the other hand, Imad Waseem was also very impressed with the new ball, and he got the second wicket of Munaweera, who added only 17 run a ball in the team's total. He lost his wicket in the 6th over of the match when the score was 30-1.
Losing a couple of wickets in the first six overs meant it would be a massive challenge for Dhaka Dominators, but their misery didn't end there as Imad got 2 in 2. The first ball duck for Robin Das, and Dhaka Dominators inside the PP was 32-3.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 1: Imad Wasim, The New Ball Specialist
Bowling in the power play is a challenging task when you only have two fielders outside the circle, but some people with time improve their skills so that they have the talent to do this job. One of those customers not only for Pakistan but Karachi kings, and wherever he plays t20 cricket, Imad is a go-to man for any team in the power play, and he is someone who does not rely on the wicket all the time.
He has accuracy and his reading of the game in terms of what the batter is going to do make him slightly ahead of the game more often than not, he ends up giving his team a scintillating start in the PP.
In this match, Imad bowled three overs in the power play upfront and gave away only 13 runs with two crucial wickets, which was an ideal start from Sylhet Strikers's point of view. Such players are the Goldust that can contribute with the ball, with the bat, and in the field. Imad is one of those contents.
He also had a point to prove to get himself giving his best in this tournament because recently he was not part of Pakistan's white ball set up, which was quite surprising to so many people, but this is what we say that hunger to get back to your national team does for an individual as you try to do more than what you have the potential to do.
An individual can unleash his true ability. He ended with the figures of 22-3 in 4 overs with a man of the match performance.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 2: Dhaka Dominators Losing The Plot In Middle Overs
When Dhaka Dominators was consolidating on the loss of 3 quick wickets, all that they needed was some partnership, but it didn't happen as Usman Ghani was bamboozled by Nazmul Islam with the stumps being shattered after scoring an untidy 27(28).
Sylhet Strikers sank further at the halfway stage at 52. Their captain Nasir Hossain, a very handy all-rounder, comes on to bat at no. 6 with a massive responsibility on his shoulders.
Imad Wasim returned in the 14th over and ensured that his team remained on top. He got Mithun plumb in front, and Dhaka Dominators lost their 5th wicket. Mithun's stay at the crease was challenging as he added 15 runs after consuming 23 cherries which is too much and too slow for t20 cricket.
After 15 overs, Dhaka Dominators was at 79-5, and even for getting a 120, they needed something special from their captain as things were not looking so good for them.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 3: Nasir And Arif Did What They Could For Dhaka Dominators
Dhaka Dominators needed some impetus to the innings in the last 5 overs. They added 51 runs, which was pretty good, considering how they played in the first 15 overs of this game. Captain Nassir added 39 runs from 31 balls.
He was supported by Ariful Haq who contributed 20 runs in 16 days, then managed to chip in some boundaries, and made sure that at least they had something to defend.
The wicket was assisting the spinners so It was all about the spinners of Dhaka Dominators getting an early breakthrough bringing their middle into the play.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 4: Steady Run Chase Start Due To Haris’s Blitz
Shanto and M Haris were at the crease for Sylhet Strikers, chasing 129. Salman Irshad was in Infront of them to make the early roads for his team. Mohammed Haris is known for his attacking cricketing shots.
He has recently represented Pakistan as well in the World Cup, and he promised everyone with his fearless and relentless approach to t20 cricket, which seems ideal for this format where you watch the ball and hit the ball and does not think about the scorecard a lot.
Dhaka Dominators managed to keep M Hari's quiet in the first two overs at 7-0, but it was a matter of time before he started giving it a whack. In comes the 3rd over, and Al Amin was slanted for 6, 4 ,4 by Haris and cleared, showing his intentions to the opposition.
The partner of Haris, Najmul Hossian was slightly conservative, giving himself some time to set in. At the end of PP, Sylhet Strikers was 35 but most importantly, for no loss. In the 7th over of the innings, there was an opportunity for Dhaka Dominators, but they didn't get hold of it when Mithun dropped M Haris.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 5: Nasir Hossain Spun His Magic
In the 9th over, Dhaka Dominators got their first wicket, and it was none other than their captain Nasir Hossian who brought the breakthrough by knocking Shanto's stumps over after playing a pretty unimpressive knock of 12(20), and he was not done by the first wicket very much like Imad.
He also got a couple of wickets in the same over, first getting rid of Shanto, and then he also made Mohammad Harris stumped, who was playing pretty well and scored 44 runs from 32 balls, but a couple of wickets in one over made Dhaka Dominators believe that they are in the game and now they need to keep hold of it.
In the next over, Arafat Sunny followed his Skipper's footprint and hit the wicket of Zakir Hasan, who tried to loft this delivery over covers but ended up being caught at backward point.
Imad Wasim, the hero with the ball, came to the crease, and at the halfway mark, Sylhet Strikers was 66-3. The game was evenly balanced, maybe slightly in favor of Sylhet Strikers, but the next few overs were highly important for both teams.
In the next five overs, they only added 24 runs, but more importantly, they didn't lose any wickets; that could be the difference, too, in the last five overs. Sylhet Strikers was at 90 -3 after 15 overs.
BPL 2023 Cricket Highlight 6: The Nail-Biting Finish
Sylhet Strikers needed 39 from 30 in the last 5 with seven wickets. On a normal day on good batting surfaces, a batting team would fancy themselves 9 out of 10 times under these circumstances. Still, these surfaces of BPL 2023 with extravagant amounts of spin can make life for a new batter very difficult.
From Dhaka Dominators's point of view, it was about a couple of quick wickets, and things will open up. Taskin Ahmed brought that important breakthrough by taking the wicket of Imad Wasim in the 16th over, who went after a struggling 11(20).
With some enormous hitting reputation, Perera partnered with Mushfiqur Rahim, probably the ideal pair to get Sylhet Strikers over the line with the team requiring 31 from 24.
Salman Irshad, the tall Pakistani fast bowler, came into the attack and bowled two tidy overs upfront, and this one was not bad either, where he gave away six runs turning the equation to 24 from 18.
The real drama came in the 18 over when Taskin not only got the massive scalp of Mushfiqur 27(25) but also conceded only three runs in the 18th over. The 19th over is supposed to be given to the best bowler of the team, and Salman Irshad was given that responsibility, but he got whacked from the quality of Perera after conceding a couple of boundaries and then a six from Akbar Ali that probably sealed the game for them by bringing the equation to 2 from 6.
Sylhet Strikers won this game in style when Perera smoked Soumya Sarkar over deep midwicket and got two imp points for his team after chasing it in 19.2 overs.
